2019 All-CAA | GIVE NOW: Howlin' Huskies Fund
BOSTON -- The Northeastern men's and women's track and field teams collected a pair of major postseason awards on Wednesday, as the CAA announced senior
Kerri Ruffo as the league's Women's Track Athlete of the Year and head coach
Tramaine Shaw as Men's Coach of the Year.
Ruffo put together an outstanding 2019 outdoor campaign, one that included earning Most Outstanding Track Performer of the Meet at the CAA Championships after winning gold in both the 5,000-meter and the 10,000-meter. Ruffo bested her own program record in the 10,000-meter with a time of 34:32.79 at the Raleigh Relays in March, the fourth time she has broken the record in the event. She also moved into fifth on the all-time program outdoor performance list in the 5,000-meter with a 16:47.65 personal-best time at the IC4A/ECAC Championships.
Ruffo is the second Northeastern women's track performer to earn a CAA Athlete of the Year honor alongside
Patrice Williams, who won the award last year.
This is the fifth-straight year that Northeastern's track and field head coach has been named Men's Coach of the Year. Former head coach Cathrine Erikson won the award three times in a row from 2015-2017, with Shaw picking up where she left off in 2018 and 2019.
Shaw led the men's team to the CAA Outdoor Championship this year, also the fifth-straight league title for the Huskies. The head coach saw her team win eight gold medals at the event, including three from Most Outstanding Track Performer of the Meet
Dametrius O'Connor (100m, 200m, 4x100m relay). In all, Shaw coached 19 different male athletes to All-CAA honors for placing top-three in their event, including eight who medaled in multiple events.
In addition to the 19 men, six women also earned All-CAA honors, bringing the total number of conference honorees this season to 25. Below are all the athletes and the events they placed top-three in:
