KINGSTON, Jamaica --
Northeastern women's track and field thrower Erica Belvit is now a Jamaican National Champion after taking home gold in the hammer throw at the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association National Senior Championships in Kingston, Jamaica this past Saturday.

Belvit threw for a new personal best of 62.36 meters, surpassing her previous Northeastern women's program-record mark of 62.04 meters. The distance met the standard for entry into the U23 NACAC Championships, though it has not yet been determined if she will attend the competition.

The rising senior is coming off of a record-setting outdoor season with the Huskies, one in which she set a new women's record in the hammer throw and posted four total marks in the event that no other female Husky has ever achieved. After a dominant regular season with five top-three finishes, Belvit qualified for IC4A/ECAC Championships and the NCAA East Preliminary Championships. Her postseason consisted of winning silver in the hammer throw at both the CAA and IC4A/ECAC Championships, before placing 13th, just one spot away from qualifying for the NCAA Championships, at the NCAA East Preliminaries.
