BOSTON -- Continuing the storied history of Husky crews, the Northeastern men's rowing team will fly to London to take part in the Henley Royal Regatta on the River Thames this week. This will be the program's eighth appearance at the world-renowned event, and the first since 2013.
The event is conducted in dual races, with the winner of each matchup moving on to the next round. After a qualifying race that Northeastern is exempt from to reduce the number of entries from 64 to 32, the official regatta will begin on Wednesday, July 3 and run through Sunday, July 7.
The Huskies will send their first and second varsity eights crews to compete in the Temple Challenge Cup. Northeastern's 1V will go up against the University of London at 2:10 p.m. local time on Wednesday, while the 2V will face Eton College at 10:05 a.m. local. All racing can be streamed live by

This Temple Challenge Cup began in 1990 and consists entirely of college and university teams. The cup itself was made in 1835 by Charles Fox and has been engraved with an image of the temple that sits on the island at the start of the race course.
The last time the Huskies traveled to Henley-on-Thames in 2013, their varsity eight "A" crew made it to the championship race in the Ladies' Challenge Plate before being narrowly edged by the Leander Club and Molesey Boat Club crew in the final race. Among other notable finishes, Northeastern has taken second place twice before 2013, when the storied teams of 1972 and 1973 ended as runners-up in the Grand Challenge Cup in consecutive years.
The team is coming off of another successful season in 2018-19, one which culminated in a fifth-place performance for the first varsity at the Eastern Sprints before finishing fifth in the nation at the IRA Championships. More hardware was collected throughout the season, with the team retaining the Burk (Penn), Arlett (Boston University), and Congram (Wisconsin) Cups over their various oppositions.
