BOSTON – The No. 8 Northeastern men's rowing team returns to the Charles River for the first time this season when the Huskies battle crosstown rival No. 12 Boston University on Saturday morning. THREE THINGS TO KNOW
Â
1. ARLETT CUP HISTORY
Back home on the Charles, rivals Northeastern and Boston University will continue a series that has been rowed since 1966. Northeastern leads the all-time series, 51-17. Since 1978, the crews have competed for the Arlett Cup, named for the late Ernie Arlett, Northeastern's first men's rowing coach. The Huskies have won 34 of the 46 cup races, including 10 of the last 13 and each of the last seven.
Â
2. RED HOT START
The Huskies are off to a strong start to the spring campaign, earning cup wins in each of the first two weeks of the season. Northeastern kicked off the year with a win over No. 11 Penn for the Burk Cup on Mar. 21 before edging No. 6 Brown for the Dreissigacker Cup last weekend in Sarasota, Fla. A win on Saturday over Boston University would mark the 13th time in team history that the Huskies have won the Arlett, Burk and Dreissigacker cups in the same season, and first since 2023.
Â
3. NORTHEASTERN EARNS INVITE TO 2026 WINDEMERE CUP
Following a race against Harvard on April 28, Northeastern will travel to Seattle to compete in the Windemere Cup on May 2. Hosted by No. 1 Washington, the Windemere Cup is one of the world's premier rowing events and will pit Northeastern against the top ranked Huskies as well as the Great Britain National Team. It marks the second time that the Huskies will compete at the regatta, and first since 2003. Northeastern's women's rowing team also raced at the event in 1997.
