BOSTON –
Three individuals from the Northeastern women's track and field team, as well as both the men's and women's teams as a whole, earned academic recognition from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Monday.

Leeyan Redwood (Communication Studies), Kerri Ruffo (Masters in Sports Leadership) and Paige Suse (Psychology) all collected individual honors for posting a cumulative grade point average above 3.25 and for participating at the NCAA East Preliminary Round earlier this season.

As a team, the men (3.16) and women (3.43) each surpassed the minimum mark of a cumulative team GPA of 3.0 or better to be considered.

Monday's announcement comes after both men's and women's track and field programs earned a perfect Academic Progress Rate score of 1000 in 2017-18 while the athletics department combined to record a cumulative grade point average above 3.0 for the 23rd straight semester.

Ruffo, who was named the CAA Women's Track Athlete of the Year, won gold in both the 5000m (17:26.06) and 10000m (36:04.07), earning Most Outstanding Track Performer of the Meet at the CAA Championships. She also placed third in the 5,000m with a time of 16:47.65, good for fifth on the all-time NU outdoor performance list, at the ECAC/IC4A Championships. She went on to compete in the 10000-meter run at the NCAA East Preliminary Round.

Redwood won silver in the shot put (14.89m) and finished 10th in the discus throw (43.93m) at the CAA Championships and also placed third in the shot put with a distance of 14.24m at the ECAC/IC4A Championships. She advanced to the NCAA East Preliminary Round where she competed in the shot put.

Suse won the high jump, leaping 1.79m at the CAA Championships in addition to finishing fourth in the high jump with a height of 1.72m at the ECAC/IC4A Championships. She competed in the same event at the national meet.
