BOSTON— The Northeastern women's soccer team kicks off its 24th season as a varsity program with an early non-conference matchup at Stony Brook on Thursday, Aug. 22 at 7 p.m.
Â
THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
- Huskies begin 2019 season. Northeastern finished last season with a 10-9-1 (7-2-0 CAA) record, advancing to the CAA semifinals before falling to Hofstra, 1-0. The Huskies return 19 letterwinners from last season while adding in seven freshman to the mix.
- Twos are wild this season. Junior back Julianne Ross (No. 2) was named the CAA Preseason Defensive Player of the Year in the award's inaugural season. Ross and junior defender Mikenna McManus (No. 22) were selected to the 2019 Preseason All-CAA Women's Soccer Team.
- Scouting the Seawolves. The Huskies will be opening their 2019 campaign against Stony Brook, as the two teams meet for the 10th time in program history. The Seawolves return their 2018 leading goal scorer, Alyssa Francese (9) and 2018 America East Goalkeeper of the Year Sofia Manner. Stony Brook is led by first-year head coach Tobias Bischof.
