WORCESTER, Mass.  – The Northeastern field hockey team started off the 2019 season with a bang shutting out Holy Cross 3-0 on Friday night. Three different goal scorers helped with the result while Julia Gluyas picked up the shutout, making six saves, in the victory.

The win marked the 13th-straight for the Huskies against their cross-state rivals, while the 3-0 score just added to the Huskies lifetime advantage over the Crusaders, outscoring them 44-9 in the 14 program meetings.

The Northeastern rookies help the team get on the board first as Alli Meehan netted her first career collegiate goal in the 8thminute of action with a little help from Lauren Rowe to put the Huskies up 1-0 in the first quarter of action.

The Huskies came out firing after the half as Lauren Brewster netted her first career goal off of a corner just 59 seconds into the half while Camille O'Conor redirected a shot from Lauren Rowe into the back of the net just a few minutes later to make it a 3-0 ball game, where it remained as the Huskies picked up their first win of the season in the season opener.

The Huskies are back in action with their home opener on Sunday afternoon at Dedham Field when they take on Monmouth at 1 p.m.
