WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – In its third game of the week, the Northeastern field hockey team ran out of steam at No. 21 Wake Forest falling 3-1 to the Demon Deacons on Sunday afternoon.
Lexie Dunleavy was the lone goal scorer of the game for the Huskies (6-3) while
Julia Gluyas was tested throughout the whole game and finished with eight saves on the day.
The Demon Deacs got on the board first in the first quarter with a goal in the 10
thminute of play. Neither team was able to make anything happen for the remainder of the half, though Gluyas hung tough down the stretch in the first half to keep it a one-goal game after the first 30 minutes of play.
Wake was able to add another one on in the third quarter when a bouncing pass in from the left side was barely redirected into the goal to make it a 2-0 game.
But the Huskies responded less than a minute later when Dunleavy got the team on the board with her third goal of the season to make it a 2-1 game heading into the final stanza. Wake added another off of a penalty corner in the fourth to seal the victory.
The Huskies look to rebound next weekend when they continue this road trip at UMass on Friday afternoon before returning home for Alumni Day at Dedham Field on Sunday, October 6 at 12 p.m.
