BOSTON – Two fast goals in the final two minutes of action gave No. 23 Boston University a 5-4 victory over the Northeastern field hockey team on Sunday afternoon. The Huskies lead for the majority of the second half, before the Terriers were able to come away with the improbable victory.
Alli Meehan finished with a pair of goals for the Huskies while
Kasidy Anderson added a goal and an assist in the loss.
Julia Gluyas finished with four saves on 15 shots faced.
BU got on the board first just over five minutes into action, taking advantage of a penalty corner opportunity. But before the end of the first quarter was up, the Huskies tied things up as Meehan and Anderson connected with 90 seconds left in the frame.
The Terriers jumped out to another lead in the second quarter but, once again, the Huskies evened the score before the half when
Lauren Brewster took advantage of a penalty corner ripping home the tying goal with some help from
Megan Barrett with 36.4 seconds left in the half.
In the third quarter, Meehan netted her second goal of the game to give the Huskies their first lead of the day just 90 seconds into the frame sending home a rebound out in front of the net to give the Huskies a 3-2 lead. Anderson added to that lead taking advantage of a turnover, sending a long pass to herself and then besting the BU keeper one on one for the score to make it a 4-2 game.
BU cut into the lead before the end of the third quarter and then were able to tie the game up with just over two minutes to go in regulation and get the game winner with time winding down in the game.
The Huskies return to action next Sunday against another local foe when they head to Chestnut Hill to face Boston College at 1 p.m.
