PHILADELPHIA – Despite sophomore forward
Alexis Hill notching her first career double-double on Friday night, the Northeastern women's basketball team lost its competitive, low-scoring affair at Drexel, settling for the 50-41 result at the Daskalakis Athletic Center.
Â
Hill led the Huskies with 15 points and 10 rebounds in addition to charting three assists, two blocks and two steals. Senior forwardÂ
Ayanna Dublin followed Hill with six points and nine rebounds while
Stella Clark and
Kendall Currence both recorded seven-point efforts.
Â
Northeastern (5-8, 1-1 CAA) executed its interior game well, racking up the 39-29 advantage in total rebounds and the 26-20 edge in points in the paint. The Huskies also limited Drexel (9-6, 2-1 CAA) to 29 percent shooting – the lowest field goal percentage NU has allowed this season.
Â
Points were at a premium during the first half, which witnessed Hill give Northeastern the 15-12 lead during the opening possession of the second quarter. However, Hill's layup went down as the final points NU would earn before halftime as the Dragons closed the quarter by yielding seven points across the next nine minutes of play.
Â
Clark's lone 3-point basket of the night came at a key time for Northeastern, leveling the game at 31-31 with 6:44 remaining in the fourth quarter. The junior point guard converted another field goal to trim the Dragons' lead to 35-33 with four minutes to go, but Drexel managed to score 11 of its final 15 points at the foul line, putting the game out of reach.
Â
Niki Metzel and Mariah Leonard shared the Dragons' scoring lead, recording 13 points apiece. Bailey Greenberg – who entered the night as the leading scorer in the CAA (20.8 points per game) – was held to six points on two-for-11 shooting.
