Huskies outlast Elon during OT to move into first place

BOSTON – Led by Alexis Hill's 17-point, 16-rebound double-double on Friday night, the Northeastern women's basketball team outlasted Elon during overtime, earning the 68-65 victory at Cabot Center to move into a three-way tie for first place in the CAA standings.

Hill was one of four Huskies who finished their scoring in double figures. Shannon Todd paced NU with 18 points and logged five rebounds, Stella Clark added 15 points, three rebounds and three steals while Mide Oriyomi provided 10 points off the bench.

Northeastern (7-8, 3-1 CAA) burst out of the gates with the 13-0 scoring run, denying Elon (8-8, 3-2 CAA) activity on the scoreboard through the game's opening eight and a half minutes. The Huskies doubled up the Phoenix, 32-16, inside the final minute of the first half, but surrendered two late 3-point baskets to Ariel Colon, settling for the 32-22 halftime lead.

Despite Northeastern leading, 49-40, with 6:03 remaining in regulation, Elon rallied to reduce the gap, sneaking in front late, 54-53, courtesy of Kayla Liles's 3-point basket. Katie May found Shannon Todd for the go-ahead 3-point response, but Kendall Currence was unable to answer Jaylin Powell's game-tying layup at the free throw line as both teams progressed into overtime.

There, Northeastern led by as many as six points with 1:53 to go when Colon and Powell hit consecutive 3-pointers to knot the game at 64-64. Todd broke the deadlock with an aggressive drive and pair of ensuing free throws while the NU defense managed to take care of the rest.

Colon led all scorers with 23 points in addition to hauling in seven rebounds. Powell recorded 16 points off the bench for the Phoenix.
