Fiery shooting lifts NU to 74-51 win during CAA opener


BOSTON – Led by Ayanna Dublin's season high, 16 points, the Northeastern women's basketball team opened its CAA schedule on Sunday with the dominant, 74-51 victory against Hofstra at Matthews Arena.
 
Dublin finished as one of the Huskies' four double-digit scorers, rounding out her stat line with five rebounds, four assists and two steals. Stella Clark and Shannon Todd respectively notched 13 and 10 points out of the NU starting lineup while Alexis Hill compiled 11 points, six rebounds and three assists off the bench.
 
Northeastern (5-7, 1-0 CAA) logged its best shooting performance of the 2019-20 season, firing at 56 percent from the field and 71 percent inside the 3-point line. The Huskies sported the 40-32 edge in points in the paint, converting the visitors' 25 turnovers into 31 points as well.
 
NU turned in an 8-0 scoring during the first quarter to rush out to the 11-4 lead, allowing Hofstra (3-9, 0-1 CAA) to slide briefly within two points that period but no closer during the remainder of the contest. The Huskies led comfortably by at least 10 points from the eight-minute mark of the second quarter through the game's final buzzer.
 
Jaylen Hines led the Pride with 12 points and eight rebounds while Marianne Kalin chalked up eight points, three rebounds and two blocks.
