Tyson Walker scored a team-best 29 points, including a career-high 13-for-14 from the free-throw line, and
Jahmyl Telfort added 13 points in his first-ever collegiate game to lead Northeastern (0-1) in a 94-79 defeat at Massachusetts (1-0) on Friday inside the Mullins Center. The Huskies committed 18 turnovers that UMass turned into 24 points.
Jason Strong was also in double figures for the Huskies with 11 points.
Chris Doherty had eight points and five rebounds in his Northeastern debut.
Down by two at the midpoint of the first half, the Minutemen used a 13-0 run fueled by turnovers to lead 46-37 at the break. UMass pushed its lead up to 15 points through the first 10 minutes of the second half and shot 50 percent (6-for-12) from behind the arc in the final 20 minutes.
The Huskies will host UMass on Sunday inside the Cabot Center on Solomon Court. Game time is set for Noon and will be televised on NESN. Fans are not permitted to home events through the end of 2020.
