Jahmyl Telfort scored a team-high 16 points and
Greg Eboigbodin grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds to lead Northeastern (1-2) in a tough 62-56 loss at Syracuse (5-1) on Wednesday inside the Carrier Dome. The Huskies led for a majority of the game, but 21 turnovers led to the Orange coming away with the victory.
The Huskies were without leading scorer
Tyson Walker for most of the second half. A native of Westbury, N.Y., Walker entered the game averaging 24.5 points per game, sixth-best in the NCAA.
The game remained tight throughout with seven ties and 10 lead changes. The Huskies took a five-point lead as
Shaquille Walters scored in transition to put Northeastern up 41-36 with just over 13 minutes remaining. The Orange countered with a 9-3 run to take their first lead of the second half, 45-44, at the 8:44 mark. Syracuse would not relinquish that lead the rest of the game, and pushed it to a game-high seven points with under two minutes left to hold on for the win.
Syracuse is receiving four votes in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll. SU's Joseph Girard III led all scorers with 21 points, while Quincy Guerrier tallied 18 points and 16 rebounds.
Northeastern will stay on the road for its next two games, traveling to Norfolk, Va., for a game at Old Dominion this Sunday at 2 p.m., and then will head over to Athens, Ga., for a non-conference contest against Georgia at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
