WAKEFIELD, Mass.— Northeastern's
Gunnarwolfe Fontaine has been named the Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week, announced by Hockey East on Monday. Fontaine led the Huskies with two goals, the first of his collegiate career, and one assist Saturday in the 4-1 win against Vermont (
story), plus notched the lone shootout goal Sunday in a 2-2 tie allowing the Huskies to take the extra point (
story).
The Freshman is making a strong impact with the Huskies, earning his first collegiate award after only his sixth game. The Nashville Predators draft pick played his previous two seasons with the USHL Chicago Steel and put up 46 goals with 54 assists in 105 games, while ranking fifth his final season in the USHL in goals (26), goals per game (.58) and points (57). He ended his USHL career second in all-time goals for the Chicago Steel while helping lead them to the 2019 USHL Eastern Conference Championship and USHL 2019-20 Anderson Cup Champions.
