MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Quirin Emanga scored a career-high 13 points and
Tyson Walker posted 10 points and three assists to lead Northeastern (1-5) at No. 8 West Virginia (8-2) on Tuesday inside the WVU Coliseum. The Mountaineers defeated the Huskies, 73-51, and outscored NU in the paint, 50-20.
Northeastern's Walker buried a 3-pointer to start the second half and
Shaquille Walters converted on a layup after a turnover to bring the Huskies within three, 34-31, just one minute into the second half. WVU responded with a 13-3 run over the next five minutes to take a double-digit lead, 47-34 (14:48).
The Huskies would only get as close as 10 points one time for the remainder of the half and committed 19 turnovers that led to 22 WVU points. Derek Culver led all scorers for the Mountaineers, finishing 8-for-11 from the floor and 18 points. Oscar Tshiebwe posted a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds, while Emmitt Matthews Jr. finished with 13 points.
Northeastern will open up CAA play this weekend against Elon, Jan. 2-3, inside the Cabot Center. Both games will tip at Noon and will be televised, Saturday on NESN+ and Sunday on NESN.
