BOSTON - Jordan Roland scored 19 points, 12 in the second half, while Shaquille Walters finished with 11 to lead Northeastern (11-12, 5-6 CAA) in a 74-69 defeat to Elon (7-17, 3-8 CAA) in the Schar Center on Saturday. The Phoenix shot 61 percent (27-for-44) in the game and 53 percent (10-for-19) from behind the arc.
Maxime Boursiquot, Bolden Brace and Guilien Smith all had 10 points for the Huskies. Northeastern was a perfect 19-for-19 from the free-throw line, but shot 39 percent (22-for-57) in the game.
The Huskies rallied from 11 points down in the second half and held a one-point lead until Elon's Marcus Sheffield II drained a 3-pointer with 1:22 left in the game to give the Phoenix a two-point lead, 66-64. Smith answered for the Huskies at the other end with an old-fashion three-point play as Northeastern was back on top, 67-66 (1:11). Sheffield had the response once again, recording a three-point play at the other end and Elon would make 5-of-6 free throws in the final seconds to secure the win.
Sheffield led all scorers with 28 points. Hunter McIntosh was the only other Elon player in double figures, tallying 24 and made 3-of-4 shots from beyond the arc.
The Huskies will have a week off before traveling to New York to take on Hofstra (17-7, 8-3 CAA) next Saturday at 4 p.m. The game will be streamed on FloHoops.com.
