TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Ian Fair went 2-for-3 with a walk to extend his hitting streak to 15 games, while Jared Dupere and Teddy Beaudet each added a base hit to lead Northeastern (0-1) in a 10-0 defeat to Alabama (1-0) on Friday in the season opener at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The Crimson Tide outhit the Huskies 12-4 and took advantage of nine walks.
Right-handed pitcher Kyle Murphy (0-1) made the opening day start for the Huskies, working 2.0 innings, allowing three hits, four runs, three earned runs and struck out three. RHP David Stiehl was solid in relief, tossing 4.0 innings, allowing just one run and fanned four.
LHP Connor Prielipp (1-0) earned the win for Alabama, working 4.0 innings, giving up just one hit and struck out seven. Owen Diodati drove in a game-high three runs for 'Bama, going 2-for-3 with four runs scored and homered twice in the game.
This marks the 100th season of baseball at Northeastern University. The Huskies will take on the Crimson Tide in game two of this three-game series on Saturday at 1 p.m. EST. RHP Sam Jacobsak will get the start for NU, and RHP Connor Shamblin will get the nod for the Crimson Tide.
