WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - With forwards
Alexis Hill and
Ayanna Dublin leading the offense on Friday, the Northeastern women's basketball team battled through seven first-half lead changes against William & Mary, despite the Huskies ending the night on the wrong side of the 80-64 result at Kaplan Arena.
Hill led Northeastern (10-13, 6-6 CAA) with 14 points in addition to charting five rebounds, three assists and three blocks. Dublin (12 points) finished her scoring in double figures for the first time since the Huskies' Jan. 5 conference opener while tracking down five boards and notching three assists.
Senior guard
Shannon Todd scored nine points exclusively off her 3-point ball, breaking her tie with Kendra Walton for fifth place on the program's career list (175 3-point field goals).
Northeastern outperformed William & Mary (17-6, 8-4 CAA) from the field, shooting 48 percent overall and converting 43 percent of its 3-point tries. However, the Huskies' -8 turnover margin spotted the Tribe nine more field goal attempts while the hosts managed to sink 18 of their 20 free throws.
Neither Northeastern nor William & Mary held more than a five-point lead through the opening 13 minutes of play, which witnessed the Huskies carry the 22-18 advantage into the second quarter. Although
Katie May's 3-pointer broke the game's 27-27 tie with 6:19 remaining in the first half, the Tribe responded with nine unanswered points, building the 41-34 lead by halftime.
Trailing by double digits early during the second half, Northeastern battled back, closing within one possession at the start of the fourth quarter. Clark's reverse layup from Dublin with 4:32 to go brought NU within two points again at 64-62, but William & Mary answered with the 9-0 run that put the game out of reach.
Eva Hodgson led the Tribe with 20 points while Victoria Reynolds registered 17 points and six rebounds. Nyla Pollard and Sydney Wagner tacked on 14 and 10 points, respectively.
