Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Huskies knock off Towson, 66-63, on Senior Day

BOSTON – Backed by sophomore Katie May's season-high, 15-point afternoon on Sunday, the Northeastern women's basketball team navigated past Towson, 66-63, at Cabot Center, prevailing on Senior Day for the fourth consecutive year.

May knocked down three perimeter jumpers and registered five assists to pace the Huskies' starters. Junior guard Stella Clark added 11 points, nine rebounds and two steals while Shannon Todd tallied 10 points during the final regular season home game of her career.

Sophomore guard Kendall Currence motored her way to 12 points off the bench as well, logging a double-figure point total for the seventh time during her last nine games.

With the victory, Northeastern (12-14, 8-7 CAA) moved into sole possession of fifth place in the CAA standings with two weeks to go until the conference tournament. The Huskies used the win to split their 2019-20 series with Towson (13-12, 8-6 CAA) and slide within a half game of the Tigers, who currently hold the head-to-head tiebreaker against NU per their 1-1 record against second-place James Madison.

For the second time during the 2019-20 season, Northeastern opened a game with 13 unanswered points, despite witnessing its double-digit lead shrink to 16-10 by the quarter break. Towson continued its rally to pull in front, 19-18, early during the second quarter, but the Huskies weathered the run, receiving two 3-point baskets from May and Todd to control the 34-29 halftime lead.

After leading by as many as eight points during the third quarter, Northeastern distanced itself from a 51-50 game early during the fourth quarter. Ayanna Dublin put NU ahead, 55-50, with a mid-range jumper – part of a 6-0 run that was capped by May's reverse layup.

Northeastern won the back-and-forth endgame against Towson, hitting nine of its final 12 free throws down the stretch to clinch the victory.

Kionna Jeter led the Tigers with 25 points, four rebounds and two steals while Nukiya Mayo contributed 12 points and five rebounds to the visitors' cause.
