BOSTON - Guilien Smith scored a game-high 20 points and
Shaquille Walters tallied 15 points and a career-high six assists to lead Northeastern (15-14, 9-8 CAA) past James Madison (9-19, 2-15 CAA), 77-57, on Thursday night inside Matthews Arena. The Huskies never trailed in the game and improved to 10-0 this season when shooting at least 50 percent (30-for-60) from the floor.
Smith started the game with a 3-pointer and scored a season-high 15 points in the opening 20 minutes to give the Huskies an 18-point lead at the half. NU increased that lead to 22 points with just over four minutes remaining to cruise to the victory. The Huskies have locked in a top-six seed for the CAA tournament next weekend in Washington, D.C. and will have a bye into the quarterfinals.
Also in double figures for Northeastern tonight was
Jordan Roland (11) and
Maxime Boursiquot (10).
Bolden Brace led Northeastern with 10 rebounds, tallying eight points. The Huskies dished out 17 assists on 30 made baskets, the most in league play this season.
Matt Lewis was the only JMU player in double figures, finishing with 17. Northeastern held the Dukes to 38 percent (18-for-47) shooting from the floor.
The Huskies will close out the regular season this Sunday as Towson comes to Matthews Arena for a nationally-televised game at 4 p.m. on CBS Sports Network. NU will recognize Brace, Roland and Smith before the game for Senior Day. One lucky student will also have a chance at making a halfcourt shot and winning $5,000, presented by Coca-Cola.
