Northeastern's home winning streak ends against Hens

BOSTON – Despite freshman forward Mide Oriyomi leading the way with 11 points off the bench on Friday night, the Northeastern women's basketball team was unable to contain Delaware as the Huskies played to the 81-69 defeat at Cabot Center.

Oriyomi was one of three NU reserves who finished their scoring in double figures as Northeastern (10-11, 6-4 CAA) witnessed its seven-game home court winning streak come to an end. Backcourt underclassmen Kendall Currence and Mossi Staples registered a pair of 10-point outings while the Huskies' bench together accounted for 37 points on the night.

Nicole Enabosi led Delaware (8-13, 4-6 CAA) with 28 points, shooting nine-for-15 from the field and hitting 10 of her 14 free throws. Jasmine Dickey compiled a 14-point, 13-rebound double-double for the Blue Hens, who collectively shot 56 percent from the field.

Northeastern fell behind early as Delaware's Abby Gonzales connected on back-to-back 3-pointers, helping the Blue Hens charge out to the 8-2 lead. Katie May fired a triple midway through the first quarter to bring the Huskies within 11-7, but the Delaware offense answered with a 9-2 scoring run to extend its lead to double digits.

With NU facing a 41-26 halftime deficit, Alexis Hill created two quick baskets for Northeastern during the opening minute of the third quarter, firing up the home crowd and sending the Blue Hens into an immediate timeout. However, Delaware continued to flex its interior strength, working its lead as high as 54-36 with four minutes to go in the period.

Northeastern rallied during the fourth quarter to stage a 15-3 scoring run and pull within 72-65 by the two-minute mark, but missed key free throws down the stretch, converting 11 of its 22 such attempts during the game.
