BOCA RATON, Fla. - Kyle Peterson went 5-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs, while Ian Fair cleared the bases with a two-out double in the sixth inning to lead Northeastern (8-5) to a 10-7 win over Florida Atlantic (9-5) on Saturday at the FAU Baseball Stadium. The Huskies posted 14 hits in the game, and Brandon Dufault earned his third save of the season, retiring all three batters he faced in the ninth, including two strikeouts.
Spenser Smith earned four walks at the plate and scored two runs and Ed Jarvis drove in three runs, going 1-for-2 at the dish. Right-handed pitcher Sam Jacobsak (2-1) worked 5.2 innings, striking out four, and RHP David Stiehl threw 2.1 strong innings, striking out three for the Huskies.
After FAU jumped on top 4-1, the Huskies tied the score at 4-4 in the fifth inning. Then the Huskies loaded the bases with two outs in the sixth inning and Fair doubled to drive in all three runs to put NU on top 7-4. The Owls' Nicholas Toney hit a two-run home run to bring FAU within one, 7-6, but Ryan Cervone and Jarvis each drove in runs in the top of the seventh inning and Dufault slammed the door in the ninth.
The Huskies and Owls will play the deciding third game of the series on Sunday at Noon. The game will be streamed on CUSA.tv.
