BOSTON— Defenseman
Paige Capistran of the Northeastern women's hockey team was selected by the Boston Pride with the sixth pick in the fifth round of the 2020 National Women's Hockey League (NWHL) Draft on Wednesday night.
Â
Capistran joins fellow senior
Codie Cross as the two Northeastern players to be selected in this year's draft. Cross was selected ninth overall on Tuesday night by the Buffalo Beauts.
Â
"I am so proud of Cap and I congratulate her on being drafted by the Boston Pride," said assistant coach
Lindsay Berman. "With her determination to get better every day and her love of hockey, I know she will make her mark with the Pride as she did at Northeastern. The Pride gained not only a great defenseman but also a phenomenal person and natural leader."
Â
"Boston has been my home for the past four years, so being drafted by the Pride and getting the opportunity to continue playing the sport I love is very exciting," remarked Capistran.
Â
The blue-liner was drafted in the fifth round and 30th overall by the Pride. Capistran captained Northeastern during the 2019-20 campaign which saw the Huskies claim the Hockey East regular season crown, Hockey East tournament championship and the Beanpot.
Â
The Manchester, New Hampshire native was the Huskies' first Hockey East Sportsmanship Award winner in 2019-20. Capistran finished her career 30 points off four goals and 26 assists and skated in 145 career games, the sixth-most all-time at Northeastern.
Â
Capistran's selection by the Pride makes her the Huskies' eighth draft pick since the inception of the NWHL in 2015.Â
