BOSTON - Northeastern's
Bolden Brace signed a professional contract with the Den Helder Suns in Helder, Netherlands and will compete in the Dutch Basketball League, announced by the organization. Brace helped lead the Huskies to three straight Colonial Athletic Association championship game appearances, and a NCAA tournament appearance in 2019.
"We could not be happier for
Bolden Brace and his family as he embarks on the start of his professional basketball career," said head coach
Bill Coen. "In a word, Bo is just a winner, on the court and in life. While here at Northeastern, he was the consummate teammate and made everyone around him better. I think the Den Helder Suns are getting a terrific basketball player and an outstanding person."
Brace ended his Northeastern career fourth all-time in 3-pointers made with 230 and No. 8 in career free-throw percentage with a mark of .812. A native of Santa Barbara, Calif., Brace was named to the CAA All-Tournament Team this past season after leading NU to the title game, averaging 14.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. He finished eighth in the CAA this season with 6.6 rebounds per game and led the Huskies with four double-doubles, starting in all 33 games.
"I am ecstatic to start my career overseas and feel so thankful for this opportunity," said Brace. "There are so many people that helped me along the way, but to name a few I'd like to thank CourtSide Hoops, the Northeastern staff and family, my parents and sister, friends, and my girlfriend. While I am eager to learn more about the Dutch history and culture, I am also ready to give everything I have to the Den Helder Suns in order to achieve success on and off the court."
In the 2019 CAA title game, Brace recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Hofstra to give the Huskies their second NCAA tournament appearance in five seasons. He finished fourth in the league during the 2018-19 season by making 41 percent of his 3-pointers. Brace was named the inaugural CAA Sixth Man of the Year at the conclusion of the 2017-18 season, averaging 7.9 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.
Brace becomes the 24th player under Coach Coen to earn a professional contract. The Dutch Basketball League (DBL), formerly known as Eredivisie, is the highest professional basketball league in the Netherlands, run by Federatie Eredivisie Basketball (FBL). The 2020-21 season is scheduled to begin sometime in September.
