BOSTON - Mide Oriyomi posted her first double-double with a career-high 20 points and 10 rebounds and
Stella Clark finished with 13 points and a career-high nine assists to lead Northeastern in the Colonial Athletic Association opener against Delaware on Monday inside the Cabot Center. The Blue Hens (4-1, 1-0 CAA) won game one of the two-game series, 86-59, over the Huskies (0-3, 0-1 CAA).
The Huskies and Blue Hens battled back and forth through the first quarter with seven lead changes as Delaware used an 8-0 run to close out the opening quarter with a 20-14 lead. The Blue Hens extended that run to 29-3 over 11 minutes to seize control of the game in the second quarter, leading at the half, 45-24.
After being outscored 25-9 in the third quarter, the Huskies responded with their best basketball of the game, outscoring the Blue Hens 26-16 in the fourth quarter. Oriyomi was a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor over the final 10 minutes, finishing with 12 points in the quarter. Clark handed out five assists in that final period, and went 2-for-4 from the floor.
The loss snaps a four-game winning streak for the Huskies in CAA openers. Northeastern and Delaware will play the final game of this CAA series on Tuesday at 1 p.m. The conference game will be televised on NESN.
