Shaquille Walters scored nine of his career-high 20 points in overtime, and
Jason Strong scored 16 of his career-high 18 points in the second half to lead Northeastern (4-5, 3-0 CAA) back from 19 points down in the second half to beat Hofstra (6-4, 2-1 CAA), 81-78 (OT), on Thursday inside The Mack. The Huskies shot 59 percent (20-for-34) in the second half and OT to complete the come-from-behind victory.
Tyson Walker handed out a career-high nine assists to go with 11 points.
Quirin Emanga added a career-best eight rebounds and finished with nine points off the bench. Leading scorer Walters filled the stat sheet with a season-high six assists, career-high three steals and grabbed seven rebounds.
Trailing by 19 with 19:30 remaining, the Huskies rallied with a 38-14 run over 14-plus minutes to take a five-point lead, 67-62, with just over five minutes left in the game. Hofstra countered to tie the game with a 6-1 run over the next four minutes and neither team scored in their final possessions to send the game into overtime.Â
In the OT, Walters buried three 3-pointers and the Huskies made 5-of-7 shots, while limiting the Pride to just two field goals in the extra session. Northeastern shot 53 percent (33-for-62) in the game and picked up its first road win of the season.
Isaac Kante led five Hofstra players in double figures, finishing with 19 points and eight rebounds. Jalen Ray and Caleb Burgess each posted 15 points, Tareq Coburn tallied 13 points and Kvonn Cramer ended with a double-double, 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Huskies will host the Pride on Saturday inside Cabot Center at Noon. The game will be televised on NESN.
