Huskies Fall to Yale, 63-60, in Overtime Thriller

NEW HAVEN, CONN.- Senior guard Kendall Currence led the way with 15 points, and freshman guard Gemima Motema tallied career-high 13 points, but it was not enough as the Northeastern women's basketball team (1-1, 0-0 CAA) fell to Yale (2-0, 0-0 IVY), in overtime on Friday night at John J. Lee Amphitheater. 

After Yale led after the first, Northeastern outscored the Bulldogs 14-8 in the second, to take a 29-26 lead at the half. After a back and forth battle in the second half, the teams were knotted up at 55 at the end of regulation.

  • Currence led the Huskies, going 3-5 from beyond the arc, and tallied six rebounds. The senior also notched three key free throws to knot the game up at 55 at the end of regulation.
  • Along with her 13 points on 6-of-12 shooting, Motema grabbed five rebounds. 
  • Senior guard Katie May recorded nine points, going 4-9 from the field, and notched three rounds and four assists.

  • Motema filled the stat sheet in other ways, grabbing four steals and adding a block.

  • Northeastern pulled down 10 offensive rebounds and forced 29 Yale turnovers. The Huskies won the points-off-turnovers battle, 21-7, outscored the Bulldogs 34-28 in the paint and had 15 bench points to the host's four.

  • Yale made four less shots than Northeastern (26-22), but was better from three, shooting 5-14 compared to NU's 3-20 from deep. The Bulldogs also went 14-19 from the free throw line, compared to the Huskies 5-10.
