Kendall Currence each put in 14 points to lead Northeastern women's basketball (4-2, 0-0 CAA) to a 63-57 comeback win over the Central Michigan Chippewas (1-3, 0-0 MAC) on Friday night on Solomon Court.
The Huskies trailed by 10 with just under four minutes to play in the third quarter but exploded for 27 points in the final frame to beat the Chippewas by six. They were fueled by a 15-2 run to start the fourth, locking down CMU defensively during the five minute stretch.
- Soriano complemented her offensive game with strong defense, earning a team-high five steals. She leads the CAA in takeaways with 28 so far this season.
- Graduate student forward Emily Calabrese also had an impressive showing, scoring 11 points and blocking a shot in her first double-digit points game of the season.
- Currence made her mark at both the free throw line, going 5-7 from the charity stripe, and on the boards, tying a team-high five rebounds on the evening. Down the stretch, Currence had a sequence of two layups – including an and-one – that clinched the game for the Huskies and extended the lead beyond CMU's reach.
- Junior forward Sammie Martin was solid for NU on the boards, bringing in five rebounds, including four offensive, to give NU second chances.
- The Huskies outshot the Chippewas tonight, knocking down 45.8% (22-48) of their shots compared to CMU's 35.8% (19-53) clip.
- Coming into tonight's matchup, the Chippewas were ranked 19th in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Poll.
