Erica Staunton tallied 11 kills, and sophomore outside hitter
Defne Arliel notched 10 kills to lead the Huskies volleyball team (12-12, 8-6 CAA) to a sweep over College of Charleston (14-11, 7-7 CAA) on Senior Day.
After falling to the Cougars on Saturday, Northeastern stormed out to a quick 11-7 lead in the first set, and never looked back the rest of the match. College of Charleston kept the set scores close (26-24, 25-20, 26-24), but the Huskies were able to hold on for the victory.
With the win, the Huskies have clinched a spot in the CAA Tournament. Seeding is to be determined.
- Junior middle blocker Anya Korbut tallied three kills, and was stellar on defense with six blocks.
- Arliel also notched four assists, two service aces, four digs and two blocks.
- Freshman outside hitter Rafaella Lepenioti had eight kills and nine digs.
- Sophomore middle blocker Marika Virthe recorded five kills and three blocks.
- Graduate student outside hitter Amanda Guasti-Nugent celebrated senior day in style, tallying five service aces, two shy of a career-high.
- Freshman setter Jessica Frannea dished out 29 assists and notched two blocks.
- Freshman libero Sahitya Krishnamurthy had a team-high 13 digs.
- The match had 27 tie scores, and eight lead changes.
The Huskies will head to Towson on Saturday, November 13 and Sunday, November 14. Both matches are slated for 12 pm, and can be watched on
