NEW YORK — Northeastern men's soccer Head Coach
Chris Gbandi was selected as a head coach for the 2021 Adidas MLS College Showcase, announced by Major League Soccer on Friday.
Gbandi will coach in the 44-athlete combine that brings together some of the best college soccer players in the country to display their skills for professional clubs through a series of training sessions, testing, interviews, and match play. It will take place between December 10-12 in Cary, N.C.
"I'm honored to have been selected as one of the coaches for the MLS college showcase," Coach Gbandi said. "It's a great honor and I'm looking forward to working with so many talented student-athletes."
"When you work hard to build an event featuring the top players in the country, you must also have the top coaches, and this year's group, like in years past, is no exception," said Alecko Eskandarian, Director, Player Relations & Player Development for Major League Soccer. "Chris is a fantastic coach and leader who exemplifies the best in our game and MLS couldn't be happier to have him this year."
Coach Gbandi's Accolades:
- Guided Huskies to 11-6-2 record in 2021, beating top-25 Hofstra during the regular season and clinching a spot in the CAA Championships
- Coached seven All-CAA honorees this season: Federico Tellez (First Team), Benjamin Klingen (Second Team), Colby Hegarty (Third Team), Timothy Ennin (Third Team), Sebastian Restrepo (Rookie Team), Søren Ilsøe (Rookie Team) and Andres Torrealba (Rookie Team)
- Holds the second-most wins in a season by a first-year coach in Northeastern History (2016)
- Coached one All-CAA First Team, four All-CAA Second Team, seven All-CAA Third Team and five All-CAA Rookie Team members in his six-year tenure
