Tyson Walker scored 16 points and
Jason Strong finished with 13 to lead Northeastern (9-7, 8-2 CAA) in a 68-57 defeat to Towson (4-13, 3-9 CAA) on Sunday at SECU Arena. The Huskies shot just 36 percent from the floor (20-for-56) and 25 percent from behind the arc (6-for-24).
Shaquille Walters was the final Northeastern player in double figures, finishing with 12 points and five rebounds. Walker has reached double figures in 13 straight games for the Huskies and scored 52 points over the weekend.
The Huskies fell behind early in the first half and made just 2-of-11 (18%) from behind the arc to trail for just the third time in conference play at the half, 30-22. The cold shooting continued in the second half as Towson built an 18-point lead, 57-39, with 5:08 remaining. Northeastern's Walker and Strong combined to make three straight triples to bring the Huskies within single digits, 57-48, with just under four minutes left in the game. The Tigers held off the rally by the Huskies by converting on 71 percent of their free throws in the final 20 minutes, going 12-for-17.
The Huskies' scheduled games against UNCW next weekend, Feb. 20-21, inside Cabot Center on Solomon Court have been postponed due to COVID-19 protocols within the UNCW program. The next scheduled contests for Northeastern are currently road games at William & Mary, Feb. 27-28, to conclude the regular season.
