CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -
Tyson Walker scored a game-high 27 points and
Coleman Stucke finished with 14 to lead Northeastern (9-8, 8-2 CAA) in an 82-62 defeat at North Carolina (13-7, 7-5 ACC) on Wednesday night inside the Dean E. Smith Center. The Tar Heels outrebounded the Huskies, 48-33, and outscored the Huskies, 42-22, in the paint.
Stucke reached double figures for the first time in 10 games, making a career-high 4-of-8 3-pointers. Walker tallied 10 or more points in his 14th consecutive game, including 27 or more in three of his last four games.
The Tar Heels used a 13-2 run over the final five minutes of the first half to take a 41-30 lead at the break. Walker led all scorers with 21 in the opening 20 minutes and became the first player to score 20 or more points in the first half against UNC since BC's Ky Bowman scored 21 on Jan. 21, 2017.
Northeastern would get as close as nine points in the second half, but the Tar Heels continued to dominate the glass, finishing with 17 offensive rebounds and 18 second-chance points, to prevent any sort of comeback in the second half for the Huskies. UNC's Garrison Brooks finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds, while Day'Ron Sharpe led the Tar Heels with 15 points.
This was the first non-conference game for the Huskies in February since hosting Stony Brook in the Sears Bracketbusters game on Feb. 18, 2012.
