David Stiehl worked 2.2 scoreless innings in relief, striking out three, as Northeastern (0-2) dropped a 9-0 decision to No. 17 Wake Forest (2-0) on Saturday at David F. Couch Ballpark. The Demon Deacons scored multiple runs in the first three innings and right-handed pitcher William Fleming (1-0) tossed 6.0 scoreless innings.
Scott Holzwasser earned a walk in the fifth inning to extend his streak to 19 consecutive games of reaching base safely.
Jared Dupere finished 1-for-4 to extend his streak to 17 straight games of reaching base for the Huskies.
Ben Malgeri went 2-for-5 in his second game for the Huskies.
Wake Forest's Michael Ludwig led the way offensively, going 3-for-4 with four runs batted in, a double and a walk. Reigning ACC Player of the Year Bobby Seymour drove in three runs for the Demon Deacons, going 3-for-5.
The Demon Deacons came out swinging with five hits in the first inning, but were limited to two runs as starter
Sebastian Keane (0-1) recorded three strikeouts. Wake Forest added three more runs in the second inning, capitalizing on an error by the Huskies that led to the big inning as the Huskies found themselves down 5-0 after two innings. Northeastern would give up three more runs in the third inning to go down 8-0, but the bullpen threw well allowing just one more run over the final five innings.
