Jahmyl Telfort is a Kyle Macy National Freshman of the Year finalist, and garnered Freshman All-America honors, announced by
CollegeInsider.com on Wednesday. Telfort, a native of Boucherville, Québec, averaged 11.8 points per game and was named Colonial Athletic Association Sixth Man of the Year and to the CAA All-Rookie Team.
The 6-foot-7 guard saved his best performance of the year for the biggest moment of the season. In the CAA semifinals against Drexel (3/8), Telfort scored a career-high 30 points, most by any NU player in CAA tournament history, making 11-of-21 shots and a career-high 4-of-6 from behind the arc. He finished with 13 points in the quarterfinal win over William & Mary (3/7) and reached double figures in 11-of-18 games this season.
Telfort earned a league-best three CAA Rookie of the Week accolades (12/14, 1/4, 1/25) and ranked second among all CAA freshmen in scoring. He tallied 20 or more points on three occasions this season and his 30-point performance against Drexel last Monday night is the sixth-best single-game performance in school history by a freshman.
The Kyle Macy Award, which is presented annually to the top freshman in college basketball, and is named for a guard who starred as a freshman at Purdue. This year's recipient of the award will be announced on April 1.
