COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Northeastern's
Aerin Frankel joins alums
Kendall Coyne Schofield and
Hayley Scamurra on the roster of 25 women for the U.S. National Team that will compete in the
2021 International Ice Hockey Federation Women's World Championship.

Dave Flint. "They have worked so incredibly hard to get to where they are and will represent USA Hockey with pride at the World Championships."
Aerin Frankel, the 2021 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award Recipient, earned her third straight Goaltender of the Year award while also earning Hockey East Co-Player of the Year. Leading the nation in shutouts (9), save percentage (.965), goals against average (0.81), wins (20) and winning percentage (.891), she overtook the all-time school record with 28 shutouts, 78 wins and 26 shutouts in Hockey East play. Frankel debuted for Team USA in the 2019-20 Rivalry Series and took home a win with a .964 save percentage over Canada. The New York native was named the WHCA Goaltender of the Year, the first season for this recognition. This will be Frankel's second appearance at the IIHF World Championships.
Coyne Schofield has been hired by the Chicago Blackhawks to be the organization's first-ever female Player Development Coach and Youth Hockey Growth Specialist. The Illinois native won the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award at Northeastern in 2016 and holds school records in goals (141) and points (249) over 133 games played. She is a highly-decorated player for the U.S. National Team, capturing six gold medals at the IIHF World Women's Championships and a gold medal in the 2018 Winter Olympics, and participated in speed skating competition at the NHL All-Star Game.
Scamurra is currently training for the 2022 Olympics with the women's national hockey team after previously playing in one of the IIHF women's world championships and earning gold. She was the 10th overall pick by the Buffalo Beauts of the NWHL and is currently a member of the PWHPA for the New Hampshire region. The Northeastern alum represented Team USA at the 2019-20 Rivalry Series alongside Coyne Schofield and Frankel.Â
The 2021 IIHF Women's World Championship is scheduled to take place in Halifax and Truro, Nova Scotia from May 6-16, 2021. The U.S. will compete in Group A alongside Canada, Finland, Russia and Switzerland. The U.S. has won the gold in five-straight IIHF Women's World Championships (2013, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019). Additionally, the U.S. has captured the top-prize in eight of the last nine IIHF Women's World Championships.Â
