Huskies Win Pitcher's Duel against Hofstra, 3-2

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Right-handed pitcher Kyle Murphy struck out a career-high 12 batters, scattering just five hits and two runs, and Jared Dupere homered for the sixth time this season and Scott Holzwasser went 2-for-4 with a double to lead Northeastern (13-6, 2-0 CAA) over Hofstra (9-8, 0-2 CAA), 3-2, in game one of a scheduled doubleheader on Saturday at University Field. RHP Brandon Dufault picked up his second save of the season, retiring the side in the ninth, and Holzwasser extended his on-base streak to 37 games.

Murphy fanned seven consecutive batters from the first to third innings, and improved to 2-0 this season. He has fanned 22 over his last two full starts for the Huskies. Spenser Smith doubled in the sixth inning and scored on a balk to join Dupere and Holzwasser with extra base hits.

Hofstra's Jimmy Joyce was equally impressive for the Pride, striking out 13 Northeastern hitters and scattered three hits over 7.0 innings in the loss. Game two will start at approximately 1:45 p.m. and will be streamed on gohofstra.com.
