BOX SCORE (PDF)

BROOKLINE, Mass. -
Right-handed pitcher Cam Schlittler (3-0) threw 7.0 strong innings, striking out seven and allowed just one run, while Ian Fair, Jeff Costello and Jared Dupere each drove in runs to lead Northeastern (18-6, 6-0 CAA) to a 3-1 win over Delaware (8-13, 4-7 CAA) in game one of a Colonial Athletic Association doubleheader on Saturday at Friedman Diamond. The Huskies have won eight straight and the 6-0 start to CAA play is the best start in program history.

Scott Holzwasser earned two walks to extend his on-base streak to 42 games for the Huskies. Teddy Beaudet finished 2-for-4 with a run scored, and Costello went 2-for-4 to lead NU offensively. RHP David Stiehl tossed a scoreless eighth inning and Eric Yost picked up his third save with a scoreless ninth inning, striking out two.

Delaware took a 1-0 lead on a home run by Aidan Kane in the second inning. Schlittler would then retire 11 straight batters and kept the Blue Hens off the base paths until the seventh inning. The Huskies would tie the game in the fourth inning as Fair singled through the left side with two outs and Costello drove in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning on a sharp single through the left side.

The Huskies tacked on an insurance run in the seventh inning as Dupere drove in Beaudet to increase the lead to 3-1. The Husky pitchers combined to strike out nine Blue Hens and walked just one to hold Delaware to one run.

Game two of the doubleheader will begin at 2 p.m. and will be streamed on FloBaseball. Fans can also listen to the game on WRBB 104.9 FM.
