Huskies Set to Compete at CAA Track and Field Championships

BOSTON—The Northeastern men's and women's track and field team will be in action this weekend at the 2021 Colonial Athletic Association Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Field events kick off on Friday, April 30 at 10:00 a.m. beginning with the women's javelin event.
 
THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
  1. Last time out:  Erica Belvit broke Northeastern's school record in the women's hammer throw with a personal-best distance of 219 feet, 6.65 inches to lead the Northeastern men's and women's track and field team on the final day of competition at the UConn Northeast Invitational. Madison Neuner placed first in the women's 3000 meters steeplechase with a personal-best time of 10:50.41, while Tessa McClain finished second in the women's 800 meters with a personal-best time of 2:12.75. Leeyan Redwood championed the women's discus throw with a mark of 134 feet, 5 inches.
     
    Back in Orlando Fla. at the UCF Knights Invite, Alexander Korczynski tallied a first-place finish in the men's 400 meters with a personal-best time of 1:52, while Bryan Keller followed shortly after clocking a personal-best time of 1:53.85 to finish in third. Eric Clay also notched a personal-best in the men's 800 meters with a time of 1:54.74.David Adams posted a time of 47.85 in the men's 800 meters, ranking him ninth on the Northeastern all-time list.
  1. CAA Outdoor Championships: The Northeastern men's track and field team is looking to capture its sixth consecutive CAA Track and Field Championship as they finished the 2019 CAA Championships with 265 points and became the first team to win five straight conference titles since 2002. Dametrius O'Connor won the Most Outstanding Track Performer after sweeping the 100 and 200 meters as well being a member of the winning 4x100 relay team. Alexander Korczynski championed the 3000-meter steeplechase in a time of 9:19.28 which was the second consecutive year that a Huskies' runner has taken the title in the event. David Adams earned his third consecutive title in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 51.94 and was the first person to win the event in three straight years since 2000. The Northeastern women's track and field team was crowned champions just two years prior in 2018 as Khailah Griffin earned Rookie of the Year and Head Coach Tramaine Shaw was named Coach of the Year. 
  1. Husky Highlights: 
  • Dominique Biron broke Northeastern's all-time Heptathlon record with 5,136 points at the UMass Multi-Meet this season. NU's previous all-time record was held back in 2016 with 5,063 points. Biron also holds the sixth best mark in the high jump event with a height of 5 feet, 6.1 inches and the eighth best mark in NU history in the long jump event with a distance of 18 feet and 11.17 inches
  • David Adams recently he broke Northeastern's 400-meter hurdles record with a time of 51.17 at the Virginia Challenge. Adams clocked the fastest mark in the CAA this spring. He currently ranks 11th in the NCAA East Region and holds the 26th fastest time in the Nation this season.
  • Erica Belvit broke Northeastern's school record in the women's hammer throw with a personal-best distance of 219 feet, 6.65 inches at the UConn Northeast Invite. This is the third time Belvit broke the all-time record this season as she previously threw a distance of 210 feet, 3 inches at the Towson Invitational just a few weeks prior. Belvit's record-breaking performance now extends her conference-leading mark to 26 feet beyond the second-best mark this spring. Belvit's mark ranks 2nd in the NCAA East Region and she holds the 7th best mark in the NCAA this spring

The Huskies will be back in action next weekend to compete at the IC4A/ECAC Outdoor Championships.
