Jared Dupere went 2-for-4 with a home run, double and RBI, and
Scott Holzwasser finished 2-for-5 with a home run and RBI to extend his on-base streak to 34 consecutive games to lead Northeastern (10-6) in a 5-3 loss to Boston College (14-13) on Tuesday at Friedman Diamond. The loss snaps a six-game winning streak for the Huskies after a 10-day layoff.
Right-handed pitcher
Kyle Murphy made the start, tossing a scoreless first inning and retiring all three batters. RHP
Wyatt Scotti (3-1) worked 2.0 innings, scattering three hits, two runs and struck out two. RHP
Eric Yost threw 3.0 strong innings, allowing two hits, one run and fanned three, and
Jeff Costello posted a 2-for-4 performance offensively, driving in one run.
Ben Malgeri and
Danny Crossen added hits for the Huskies. RHP
Brian Rodriguez tossed the final 3.0 innings, striking out three and allowed two hits and two runs.
The Huskies trailed 3-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning before Holzwasser and Dupere crushed back-to-back home runs to bring Northeastern within one, 3-2. The Eagles tacked on a run in the seventh inning, but the Huskies responded with a run in the eighth inning after a double by Dupere and two-out single by Costello as BC led 4-3.
The Eagles added an insurance run in the ninth after a triple and sacrifice fly, but Crossen led off the ninth with a base hit and
Spenser Smith walked to give the Huskies runners at first and second with one out. BC's Charlie Coon picked up a pair of strikeouts to end the threat for the Eagles.
Northeastern will travel west to face UMass (7-12) on Wednesday for a non-conference game at 3 p.m. The action can be followed via
