NEWARK, Del. - Right-handed pitcher
Cam Schlittler (6-0) tossed a career-high 8.0 scoreless innings, striking out 10, while
Max Viera and
Ian Fair each hit home runs to lead Northeastern (29-6, 17-0 CAA) to an 8-1 win over Delaware (10-21, 6-15 CAA) in the series opener on Friday at Bob Hannah Stadium. All nine batters for the Huskies recorded a hit and Northeastern is riding a NCAA-best 19-game winning streak.
Scott Holzwasser went 2-for-5, scored a run and advanced into 11th in school history with 306 total bases. Holzwasser moved into a tie for 11th all-time in program history with 191 hits, matching Connor Lyons from 2011-14.
Spenser Smith went 2-for-4 and scored a run for the Huskies.
Viera hit a solo home run in the third inning and Fair drilled a two-run blast to center field, both connecting on their third homer of the season. Viera drove in his second run of the game in the fourth inning as the Huskies scored in each of the first five innings to take a commanding 8-0 lead.
Schlittler was dominant all game long, scattering eight hits and threw 103 pitches for his longest outing of his career. NU is off to a CAA record 17-0 start in the league, and are just one victory away from matching the school record of 20 consecutive wins in 1991.
