BOX SCORE (PDF)

NEWARK, Del. –
Danny Crossen and Spenser Smith each had four RBIs, Max Viera and Ian Fair had three, Ben Malgeri, Kyle Peterson, Jeff Costello and Scott Holzwasser added two apiece, plus Jared Dupere crossed the plate four times to lead Northeastern (30-6, 18-0 CAA) in a 26-4 win on the road over Delaware (10-22, 6-16 CAA) Saturday in the first game of a doubleheader as they tie the NU record of 20 consecutive wins (1991). The Huskies also extended their NCAA leading win streak (20) and CAA record win streak to start a season to 18.

The 26 runs are the most in a single-game in Northeastern history and it's their widest margin of victory ever. The Huskies also had 20 hits for the second time this season.

Crossen got the scoring going in the first with an RBI single to short. In the second, Dupere hit an RBI single to right and then Viera hit in Dupere and Jeff Costello as the rout was on. Costello had two runs scored and four hits in this one. In the fourth, Dupere was intentionally walked for the second time in the game and Viera made them pay with an RBI single to left. Viera finished the game going 3-for-4 from the plate. Later in the inning, Malgeri took advantage of the bases being loaded with a two RBI single to center and then Fair followed up with another two RBI single.

In the fifth, Scott Holzwasser had an RBI single and then later in the inning, Crossen came up big again with a shot off the left field wall with the bases loaded and plating two on the double and ended the game with three runs scored. Fair followed later in the inning with a RBI single, while later in the inning Smith had a two RBI double, his second double of the inning, and Costello put the cherry on top in the fifth with an RBI single to give the Huskies a 17-1 lead.

In the sixth, Kyle Peterson came off the bench to hit an RBI double to center and Corey DiLoreto then followed with an RBI single. Smith later pushed another run across grounding out to second.

The Huskies didn't slow down in the seventh as Peterson knocked one in with a fielder's choice and Teddy Beaudet was hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded. Smith was also hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded and Costello came up and hit an RBI single. Ryan Cervone and Holzwasser each walked with the bases loaded as well.

Kyle Murphy (6-0) struck out six in 6.0 innings of work to stay undefeated on the season.

The Huskies look for the doubleheader sweep against Delaware with the second game starting at approximately 5 p.m. on FloBaseball and heard on WRBB.
