NEWARK, Del. – Scott Holzwasser hit a two-run shot,
Spenser Smith hit an RBI triple and
Sebastian Keane struck out six to lead Northeastern (30-7, 18-1 CAA) in a 5-3 loss to Delaware (11-22, 7-16 CAA) Saturday in the second game of a doubleheader. The Huskies came into the game winners of 20 in a row.
For Holzwasser, that was his fourth home run of the season. Between both games on Saturday, Smith had three doubles, a triple and five RBIs. It was his second triple of the season.
Keane (4-1) went 6.0 IP and gave up one run on four hits. He hasn't lost a game since February. Right-handed pitcher
Eric Yost (1-1) has his first loss of the season.
Delaware took advantage of a four-run seventh inning thanks a Jordan Hutchins home run, a Jack Goan RBI double and a Joey Loynd two RBI single.
In the first game of the doubleheader,
Danny Crossen and
Spenser Smith each had four RBIs,
Max Viera and
Ian Fair had three,
Ben Malgeri,
Kyle Peterson,
Jeff Costello and
Scott Holzwasser added two apiece, plus
Jared Dupere crossed the plate four times in a 26-4 rout over Delaware as they tied the NU record of 20 consecutive wins (1991).
The 26 runs are the most in a single-game in Northeastern history and it's their widest margin of victory ever. The Huskies also had 20 hits for the second time this season.
Northeastern will close out the four-game road series at Delaware Sunday at 1 p.m. on FloBaseball and heard on WRBB.
