Scott Holzwasser went 3-for-3, with a run scored and two runs batted in, while
Jeff Costello and
JP Olson each had two hits to lead Northeastern (30-8, 18-2 CAA) in a 9-7 defeat to Delaware (12-22, 8-16 CAA) in the series finale on Sunday at Bob Hannah Stadium. With his run scored this afternoon, Holzwasser set the all-time school record with 165 during his career for the Huskies.
Costello finished 2-for-5, with two runs scored, a double and one RBI, while Olson went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI. Right-handed pitcher
Wyatt Scotti tossed 5.0 innings in a no decision, striking out three.
Trailing 4-1 in the fourth inning, the Huskies pushed five runs across to take a 6-4 lead, highlighted by RBIs from Olson,
Spenser Smith,
Max Viera and Costello. The Blue Hens used the long ball to take the lead, first a solo home run by Jake Dunion and a two-run homer in the eighth inning by Jack Goan to defeat the Huskies for the second straight game.
Northeastern has clinched the CAA North Division title and will be the top seed out of its division. The Huskies are 18-2 in conference play, while UNCW leads the CAA South Division at 13-8. The CAA Tournament will be in Wilmington, N.C. and will run May 22-25.
