Northeastern Belts Six Home Runs in 15-2 Rout of Towson

BOX SCORE (PDF)

TOWSON, Md. - Jared Dupere crushed two home runs to push his season total to 17, Max Viera went 3-for-5 with a career-high four RBIs and Jeff Costello drove in four runs en route to a 4-for-5 performance to lead Northeastern (31-8, 19-2 CAA) in a series opening 15-2 win over Towson (20-33, 10-11 CAA) on Thursday at John B. Schuerholz Park. The Huskies smashed a school record four home runs in the fifth inning, and finished the game with six.

Dupere finished 3-for-5 with four RBIs and scored three runs. His 17 home runs ranks second all-time in single-season school history, trailing Frank Pesanello's 20 in 2008. Right-handed pitcher Cam Schlittler (7-0) remained perfect on the season, tossing 5.0 innings, striking out five and allowed just two hits.

Ian Fair finished 2-for-4 with a home run and walk and Ben Malgeri homered and went 2-for-4 to lead the Huskies offensively. RHP Brian Rodriguez tossed 2.0 innings and RHP Rick Burroni tossed a scoreless eighth for Northeastern.

Costello started the game with a home run to left field and then the Huskies added three more in the third on a two-out, bases loaded double by Viera. The Huskies would set a single-inning record with home runs from Dupere, Viera, Malgeri and Fair as the lead extended to 8-1. Dupere would homer for the second time in the game in the eighth inning, a two-run blast, to put the Huskies up 11-2. NU tacked on four more runs in the ninth, highlighted by a three-RBI double by Costello.

Northeastern will battle Towson on Friday and first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. The game can be followed on live stats on NUHuskies.com/stats and will air on WRBB 104.9 FM.
