Jared Dupere crushed two home runs to push his season total to 17,
Max Viera went 3-for-5 with a career-high four RBIs and
Jeff Costello drove in four runs en route to a 4-for-5 performance to lead Northeastern (31-8, 19-2 CAA) in a series opening 15-2 win over Towson (20-33, 10-11 CAA) on Thursday at John B. Schuerholz Park. The Huskies smashed a school record four home runs in the fifth inning, and finished the game with six.
Dupere finished 3-for-5 with four RBIs and scored three runs. His 17 home runs ranks second all-time in single-season school history, trailing Frank Pesanello's 20 in 2008. Right-handed pitcher
Cam Schlittler (7-0) remained perfect on the season, tossing 5.0 innings, striking out five and allowed just two hits.
Ian Fair finished 2-for-4 with a home run and walk and
Ben Malgeri homered and went 2-for-4 to lead the Huskies offensively. RHP
Brian Rodriguez tossed 2.0 innings and RHP
Rick Burroni tossed a scoreless eighth for Northeastern.
Costello started the game with a home run to left field and then the Huskies added three more in the third on a two-out, bases loaded double by Viera. The Huskies would set a single-inning record with home runs from Dupere, Viera, Malgeri and Fair as the lead extended to 8-1. Dupere would homer for the second time in the game in the eighth inning, a two-run blast, to put the Huskies up 11-2. NU tacked on four more runs in the ninth, highlighted by a three-RBI double by Costello.
