WILMINGTON, N.C. -
Ben Malgeri went 3-for-5, with two home runs and drove in three runs, Scott Holzwasser homered and right-handed pitcher David Stiehl earned his second save of the season, pitching out of a jam in the 10th inning to lead top-seeded Northeastern (35-10) to a 7-5 extra-inning win over No. 2 seed UNCW (32-21) on Saturday at Brooks Field to force a winner-take-all CAA Championship Game on Sunday. The Huskies scored three runs in the top of the 10th inning and held off a rally from the Seahawks in the bottom half of the inning to snap UNCW's 10-game home winning streak.

Danny Crossen drove in the go-ahead run in the 10th inning on a deep sacrifice fly to right-center field, and Malgeri singled up the middle later that inning to give the Huskies a 7-4 lead. The Seahawks put the first two runners on base to start the bottom half of the inning, but Stiehl came in out of the bullpen and induced a huge 4-6-3 double play and a line out to end the game to give the Huskies the 7-5 victory.

Ian Fair extended his on-base streak to 24 games with a single to right field. Starting pitcher Wyatt Scotti threw 7.0 strong innings, scattering seven hits, two runs, struck out four and walked none in a no decision. RHP Brandon Dufault (2-4) picked up the win in relief, throwing 2.0 innings, allowing three runs, one earned run and fanned two.

The top-seeded Huskies jumped out in front of the Seahawks with home runs by Holzwasser and Malgeri in the second inning. Malgeri struck again in the fourth inning with a no-doubt blast to left-center field and Max Viera drove in a run in the fifth inning as the Huskies led 4-0.

UNCW responded with two runs in the seventh inning and Dillon Lifrieri had an 11-pitch at bat battle with Dufault in the bottom of the eighth inning before he singled to right field to plate two runs and tie the game at 4-4.

After both teams were unable to score in the ninth inning, Jeff Costello doubled down the left-field line to start the 10th. He advanced to third base on a wild pitch and Viera earned a walk. After Viera stole second base, Jared Dupere was intentionally walked. UNCW recorded the first out at home plate, but then Crossen delivered a sac fly to score the go-ahead run and Dupere came in to score on a throwing errror at third base from the outfield to put the Huskies up two. Malgeri then singled to center field to score the third run of the inning.

The Huskies and Seahawks will play for the CAA's automatic NCAA tournament bid on Sunday at 1 p.m. The game will be streamed on FloBaseball and fans can listen to the game on WRBB 104.9 FM.
