Teddy Beaudet drove in the game-winning runs with two outs in the sixth inning,
Danny Crossen went 3-for-4 with a double and RBI and right-handed pitcher
Kyle Murphy (5-0) remained perfect on the mound, throwing 7.0 strong innings and struck out eight to lead Northeastern (25-6, 13-0 CAA) to a 5-3 win over Hofstra (15-17, 6-11 CAA) in game one of this Colonial Athletic Association doubleheader at Friedman Diamond on Saturday. RHP
Brandon Dufault earned his fifth save of the season as the Huskies are riding the nation's longest winning streak at 15.
Scott Holzwasser homered in the first inning for his third of the season, and Beaudet drove in three of the five runs for the Huskies. RHP
Eric Yost retired all three batters he faced in the eighth inning, including Hofstra's Rob Weissheier who drove in all three runs for the Pride with two home runs.
After each team homered in the first inning, the Huskies took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning on a RBI double by Crossen to score
Jared Dupere. Hofstra responded with a two-run blast by Weissheier to lead the Huskies 3-2 in the sixth inning. NU responded in the bottom half of the inning with two runs after Beaudet singled through the right side with the bases loaded and two outs to give the Huskies a 4-3 lead. NU tacked on an insurance run in the eighth inning as Beaudet successfully dropped down a safety squeeze to score Crossen and give the Huskies a two-run lead.
The Pride put runners at first and third with one out, but Dufault closed the door to secure the win. Game two of this CAA doubleheader will start at 2 p.m. at Friedman Diamond. All the action can be followed on
