Evelyn Gonzalez each added 11 of their own to push Northeastern women's volleyball (2-2, 0-0 CAA) to a 3-1 (21-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-21) victory over the Mercer Bears (3-1, 0-0 SOCON) in the first game of the Denver Tournament on Friday afternoon.
- Reigning CAA Setter of the Year, junior Samantha Shupe assisted her teammates 39 times in the effort.
- Gonzalez recorded the most points for the Huskies (15), adding two solo blocks and two assisted blocks.
- On the defensive side, the Huskies were solid, collectively making 72 digs and eight total blocks.
- Junior libero Kayla Martin led the back line effort, digging 19 and also receiving 20 serves.
- Martin also excelled while serving, giving the Huskies four aces and a .958 serving percentage.
- The Huskies dropped the first set by four points but cruised to three straight sets to take down the Bears.
- In the fourth and final set, the Huskies went on a 10-1 scoring run to take a 22-18 lead thanks to three of Martin's aces and four kills from Lepenioti.
