BOSTON – After Northeastern (6-12, 0-7) trimmed an early second half deficit down to five, Hofstra (12-7, 4-2) went on a 25-7 run to take control of the game and knock off the Huskies on Saturday afternoon at Matthews Arena, 72-50.
Jahmyl Telfort led the Huskies with 11 point, and was joined by
Chris Doherty in double figures with 10 and seven rebounds.
Coleman Stucke added seven points and seven boards for a Northeastern team that shot 35% overall (21-of-60) and 25% from three (6-of-24).
Hofstra, meanwhile, received 19 points from Zach Cooks to lead three players in double figures. Aaron Estrada added 16 and eight rebounds while Darlinstone Dubar contributed 10 points as the Pride shot 50% (28-of-56) and forced NU into 14 turnovers.
• A 48% shooting performance and 12 points from Cooks (5-of-6) was the story for the Pride in the first half, which opened up an 11-point lead at the break (34-23). Hofstra used a 12-3 run early on to build a three possession advantage (14-7) and didn't allow the Huskies to climb within more than three for the rest of the half.
• Northeastern stayed within striking distance thanks to six points from Doherty and five from Walters, while the team shot 39% overall.
• The Huskies came out of the break firing with back-to-back threes from Stucke and Telfort to quickly close the gap to five points in the first minute of the second half.
• It was all Hofstra from there, though, as the Pride used runs of 13-2 and 12-3 to regain its double-digit lead and put the game out of reach.
The Huskies will close out its four-game home stand on Monday night when Northeastern hosts UNCW at 7 p.m. on NESN+ and FloHoops.
