Emily Calabrese tallied 15 points and a game-high eight rebounds to lead the Northeastern women's basketball team (10-6, 4-2 CAA) to a 77-67 victory over William & Mary on Sunday afternoon at the Cabot Center.
Northeastern continued its dominance at home, improving to 8-1, and 8-0 in the Cabot Center. The Huskies lone loss on home court came in Matthews Arena vs. Harvard on December 19.
The Huskies shot 54% (27-of-50) and 2-of-12 from three to go with 26 rebounds and 17 assists. Currence and Calabrese led three in double-figures, and were joined by freshman guard
Claudia Soriano who notched 10 points, a career-high eight assists and five steals.
- Northeastern started off the game strong with an early 9-3 lead in the first six minutes. The Tribe then responded back with a 6-0 run to knot up the contest at 11, and took its only lead of the game at 18-16 going into the second.
- A layup by freshman guard Gemima Motema knotted up the game at 18 in the second, and Northeastern led the rest of the way. The teams traded points for most of the quarter, but late layups by Calabrese and Currence had the Huskies in control up 31-24, and ultimately 33-26 going into halftime.
- Northeastern's lead was kept to single digits in the third, with William & Mary responding back after each basket. An and one play by Currence put the team up 48-40 at the 1:04 mark to continue the Huskies' strong performance on offense heading into the fourth.
- Leading 50-43 going into the final quarter, Northeastern had its advantage trimmed to four (50-46), after four quick points by the Tribe.
- The Huskies responded back with a 6-0 run, highlighted by four points from Soriano. Northeastern notched its biggest lead of the game at 14 (66-52) in the last minute of play to seal the victory.
- Northeastern dominated in the paint, tallying 38 points to William & Mary's 24.
- The Huskies also took advantage of miscues by the Tribe, notching 24 points off turnovers.
